Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar

Hello everyone!

On Thursday, 7th June 2017, we decided to visit the yearly Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar as one of our bonding activities after the exams! We had a short hiatus from bonding activities and meet ups for 2 weeks due to Mid Semester Tests. However, we quickly got back into our meet ups right when the term break started! Because when school reopens, that is when the real work and planning will start, hence we gotta make use of the time from now till then to keep the spirit of the team high and sporting.

7 out of 8 of us could make it for this week's bazaar adventure. We met up at Paya Lebar Square, in front of McDonald's, at about 6.30pm going 7pm.

All smiles before heading to the bazaar!
During this period, our Muslim friends are observing the month of Ramadan, which means that they will fast from dawn to sunset. Hence, we agreed on meeting during the evening, where they will be able to buka puasa, which means to break fast. On that particular day, the time that the Muslims are able to break fast was at 7.11pm, and Rifhan was listening to a particular Muslim channel on his phone which would make a prayer call when it was time to break fast. During this time, we could witness our Muslim friends around us break their fast in unity - something that is a pleasant and beautiful sight.

On the way to the bazaar, we were all very excited because we heard that this year, many new and unique food and drinks have been introduced to the bazaar, and we were busily discussing what was the one thing that each of us wanted to get in particular from the bazaar. There were a variety of interesting edibles named: Dragon's Breath, Handsome Burger (Rainbow Bagel), Small Fried Soft Shell Crab, Thai Milk Tea / Nutella Soft Serve Ice Cream.. etc. Long story short, we can't wait to eat!

Lights filled the streets, hunger filled our tummies
Of course, with a place filled with such attractive and unique food and drinks, it also comes with a fierce and hungry crowd of people; it was so crowded at the bazaar! People were seen filling the walkways and jams were a common sight, queues were always long especially for famous stalls selling the trending food/drinks, creating a humid atmosphere within the tents in the area - it would be a miracle if you got out of the bazaar without sweating buckets. But we sure did enjoy ourselves nonetheless. Here is one of my favourite photos from the night:
We managed a we-fie amidst the crowd!
A short footage of what the Dragon's Breath is made of - Liquid nitrogen infused into biscuits, with chocolate sauce by the side to dip the biscuits in!

A very generous portion of Kway Teow Goreng for $5!
Here we have Darwis enjoying his buys

My second favourite photo from the night would be this! We wanted to take a photo with the lights on the road. We managed to do this in between the red traffic light for the cars to stop, allowing the pedestrians to cross. We don't recommend this but it was still fun and thrilling to have a group we-fie again!

Our dangerous we-fie
After all the long walking and queuing up for food, we were all exhausted and ready to end the fulfilling night. We enjoyed the bazaar thoroughly and I am sure that we can all unanimously agree that the bazaar has since upgraded a lot compared to previous years, and even though the pricing for the newer, more unique pieces also shot up, it is still worthy to visit and experience the atmosphere for this is a once a year event held in the spirit of Ramadan!

Tired faces after the bazaar...
