We would then start leaving the college at about 0830. But before that, the Oshima students were very helpful, and prepared for us the Okodomiyaki recipe, in English, so that we could go back to Singapore and make it to eat! They did it, because they knew we liked it very much!

Without doubt, we left with hugs and many goodbyes as we hoped to see each other in Singapore in March 2014.

0700: Breakfast
0800: Leaving Imabari
1500: Arrival at Oshima
1500-1530: Cleaning Up
1800: Dinner

Today is our last day in Oshima, before returning back to Singapore.

Similar as yesterday, we all woke up early, as we would leave Imabari, back to Oshima. It was the same journey, but this time, we have found ourselves being able to operate the ship, with lesser help. It would turn out to be an experience which many of our friends would not be able to experience so early into our 3 years of studies in SMA.

Upon arrival at Oshima, we would do some cleaning up, before we would have our briefing and being presented with a Certificate of Participation on board Oshima-maru, by its Captain. It was a moment where we would look back at the past 5 days that we have spent together, and making new friends with the Japanese students, learning new things, which we would probably not be able to learn in the classroom.

As night falls, we would walk around the neighbourhood of the school, as we get some snacks as we talk thru the night while packing up.

0630: Roll Call
0730: Breakfast
0800: Departure from Oshima
1400: Arrival at Imabari Port
1400-1700: Tour of the Imabari Zosen Shipyard and Itoyama Park
1700-2100: Shore Leave
2100: Roll Call; Free Time

We woke up early in the morning, as we started to prepare for our journey to Imabari. Due to the typhoon which wrecked had wrecked havoc on the coast of Japan, we only had one day to sail at sea and could only visit one port. However, it was a once in a lifetime experience that we would always treasure!

We left Oshima early for Imabari, and the pictures below could see our excitement in the journey!

At Imabari, we visited the Itoyama Park, before visiting the Imabari Zosen Shipyard. It was an eye opener as it was the first time many of us was visiting a shipyard! At the shipyard, we even visited a brand new Singapore vessel that was still in the process of building, with the workers trying to complete the final touches. We had the honour of visiting the bridge, and the engine room, which gave us an idea of our future working environment!

After the visit to the shipyard, we were given shore leave, and were to have our dinner outside. It was the first time for us to visit Imabari, and therefore, the Japanese students brought us around to find food that was to our taste. In the end, we settled for a BBQ restaurant. The food there was good, and we really enjoyed ourselves thru out the meal!

Day 4!

09 October 2013

In the morning, we woke up to see the devastation that the typhoon has caused overnight. It was something of an eye opener for many of us, as Singapore does not have such natural disasters that would wreck our shores. We were lucky that we are only on the outer circle of the path that the typhoon was taking, therefore, the devastation was kept to the very minimum.

Late in the morning, we finally moved back to the Oshima-maru, and began our safety drills that was required before every journey. We then had lunch, before we returned on board Oshima-maru and familiarize ourselves with the equipments on board the vessel, in preparation for our journey the very next morning.
