Oshima 2018 Day 1

29th Sept - 30th Sept 

Hello friends! Today is the first day of the Oshima trip. We all had to gather at the airport at 8pm to catch our flight to Tokyo at 10.15pm. Looking very excited at this point.

We then arrived in Tokyo, Haneda airport in the morning and had to take a transit flight to Iwakuni Airport.

Finally ! Arrived in Iwakuni airport. Was greeted by the strong wind & Mr Park came to fetch us to Oshima. We then arrived at the guesthouse & were given time to settle down after a long tiring flight.

In the evening, we headed to the dormitory to have our dinner.

After that, we had some free time & we went to explore a Oshima and catch then sunset together.  

We then strolled to their convenience store called " Popular " to get some local snacks ! The convenience store was only a 10 minute walk from the college. 

Night tiime came & we decided to practice on our skit & dance performance for the opening ceremony. Thank you Amir for leading us with the performances! 

After the practice & a few rounds of card games as a bonding session with one another, we had to call it a day. Thats the end of our day 1 ! 

Let us introduce ourselves

Hello friends ! Sorry that it has been awhile since I updated, been very busy with our final examinations before we go off for our internship ! 

First of all let me introduce our Oshima team from SMA. 

As you all may know, I'm Fazirah, the blogger for this upcoming trip. A little bit information about me : 

- I'm 18 years old ! 
- I love to read books, any type of books ! 
- I hope to broaden my knowledge on the maritime industry & sail through the seas ! 

Next up : We have our female cadets from deck side 

Meet Aishah, she may look small but her capabilities stretch far beyond. 

A little bit of aishah, 

- She's 16 years old ( age is just a number ) 

- Loves playing sports 

- And she's very excited to explore oshima and make new friends !

Lastly, we have our dearest Gwen. 

- She's 18 years old too !

- Loves playing music 

- Excited to make a comeback as this would be her second time in Japan !

- Joined this trip to get a first hand experience onboard a training ship

Meet our inseperable duo

Mao loves Japan since young, he spends most time watch anime & learning about japanese culture.

He can also speak japanese but basic ones hehe 

Loves doing community work and giving back to our society 

While on the other hand, we have Ramadan 

Ramadhan loves to ride bikes and he is very excited for his very first trip to Japan ! 

Now for the interesting side, we have our engine cadets! Our ship can't function without the most

important part of it, the engine ! 

First up we have the roses among the thorns hehe 

Meet Anggun 

She loves to travel to countries with beautiful beaches and hanging

out with friends during her freetime 

She's been looking forward to the trip since forever & hope to learn new things about 

the culture in Japan. 

Next up : We have Ajey 

Our dearest sportman, love to do climbing, taekwando and soccer 

After Ajey, we have Guo Wen 

- Drama addict & loves playing mahjong 

Lastly from the engine side we have Min Hong 

- Loves playing video games, cookings and swimming 

- Very chill guy 

- Wants to go to the oshima trip to get first hand experience on working 

as an engineer during the training ship 

Do you spot that man over there that hasnt been introduce? 

Well you know what they say, save the best for the last. 

Thats our lecturer Capt Glenn. He is Oshima's current delagation leader. 

Hands down, probably my favorite lecturer, very understanding & supportive. 

Well heres something about him that you may not know, 

- Served in merchant navy for 16 years since 1994 

- Joined our school, Singapore Maritime Academy in 2013 

- And since then grew his passion for teaching 

Well, thats about it. Hope I've given you a rough idea on our team. Excited to be in Oshima, 

see you in a weeks time !

Hello! So its currently coming to an end of the month of July & we have already formed a team of 9 students with 5 deck cadetes & 4 engine cadets for this year's Oshima trip. We havent really got enough time to meetup due to our different schedule but we are all planning to meet more often after our final exams are over in August.

We are all so excited to go Oshima & we're all buzzing about what to bring there & what to do etc                                                   ＼(^-^)／

Hopefully after our exams are over I can give an introduction of each other students going. Nonetheless here are some of the extra pictures from the previous Oshima - Singapore trip. Hope to meet my oshima friends again (✿◠‿◠)

A briefing session to Oshima students on March MEL Camp 2018

A briefing session on March MEL Camp 2018 was held in Oshima College. The presenters could share their experiences about SMA and Singapore culture to participants who want to visit Singapore someday. Especially, the students were encouraged by the MEL Camp boarding Genting Dream bound for Indonesia.

Hello ! My name is Fazirah & I will be the author journaling for this year's experience, I hope that through this, both our sides could revisit this platform to relive the beautiful memories that we will be sharing together in the upcoming future!

Today was our first meeting for the year as our group met up to plan for the places to visit when the Oshima students come to our homeland on the 16th March onwards. We are so thrilled and excited to welcome you to our beloved city.

Here are some of the places that we may visit during your stay here :)

1. Orchard Road [ It is a popular spot in Singapore! Many locals and tourist love strolling down the streets of Orchard Road & most importantly : SHOPPING & SIGHT SEEING ! ]

2. Chinatown [ Known for its uniqueness, a bustling mix of old and new, filled with traditional shops and markets, dine like a local at their Chinatown Food street. Worth the try! ]

3. Embrace the views of our Merlion Park [ Catch glimpses of our national icon, the mythical Merlion with the head of a lion and body of a fish. An amazing place to take pictures for your new instagram post & to share it with your family and friends ;)

We really hope that you will have an enjoyable stay with us & hope to make everlasting friendships :)
