Makan Makan + Introduction

Hello!

We are 5 months away from our Oshima trip! This week, we decided to meet up for dinner on one of the days at The Star Vista, Buona Vista. Prior to the dinner, while waiting for every one of us to end our classes in school, some of us decided to hit the books since the mid semester tests are just round the corner. Gradually, after everyone has arrived, we headed off to our makan destination for that night! A few of us couldn't make it for the dinner that night due to personal reasons, but we all understood their circumstances.

Initially, we had wanted to spend dinner at Manhattan Fish Market because Benjamin had the coupons which had attracting offers.

However, Rifhan suggested that we could "dabao" (take-away) pizza from Pezzo Pizza and we could go to the open roof top place situated at level 3 of Star Vista. We all agreed that that would be much more chill and informal for a mini gathering like this. With our hands filled with pizzas, gong cha bubble teas, Thai style drinks, as well as Benjamin's grapefruit-on-stick, we sat in a circle on the roof top area and began feasting. The area had a super calming vibe and it was very windy at night, coupled with the music that was playing from the vista's speakers, it was a very pleasant atmosphere indeed. The sky turned dark before we even noticed, but this was more chill than anything else because we started talking about literally anything under the sun (no pun intended).

Our Japanese friends have also been conducting presentations for the March MEL camp 2017.

The new team from Oshima college will be selected in July and they will be the one hosting and guiding us when we head over in October : )

That will be it for today!

Bowling!

Hello!

As mentioned previously, today we will be at the bowling alley.... Why?

We have actually decided to go for bowling this week, at the Singapore Polytechnic Graduates' Guild (SPGG). As suggested by Captain Raj, we arranged for us to bowl together because we felt that through interaction, we could better understand one another and forge a stronger bond between this team!

Indeed, we had a lot of laughter and fun trying our best to knock as many pins down as possible, all in the short span of an hour. To our surprise, bowling at SPGG is actually way cheaper than anywhere else! For 1 game together with the shoe rental, the total sum per pax is only at $4.20! Worth it : )

Enough words, here are some shots of the action going on!

Oshima 2017 (First Meeting)

Hello!

I am Calista, and on behalf of the new team going for the upcoming Oshima trip in October 2017, I will be the author for penning down our journey so as to be able to always re-visit our fond memories here : )

Today, we had our first ever meeting with Captain Raj, and our team consists of 8 members, namely:

1. Nani
2. Rachel
3. Calista
4. Darwis
5. Salihin
6. Sharif
7. Benjamin
8. Rifhan

During the meeting, Captain Raj introduced to us the proposed plan regarding the flight information, the cost of the trip, as well as the roles and tasks we have to take on. Most importantly, we were given time to interact with one another, so as to integrate and get to know each individual better! That way, we can be comfortable in the team, which is essential if we want the team to work effectively and cohesively with one another : )

In our next meeting, our team members will be hanging out at the bowling alley... To find out why, do stay tuned!

Goodbye!

Day 7 in Oshima 2K16

Saturday 08 October 2016

Last day to be here in Oshima. Hoping to rewind back the time on Day 1 but we got to accept the fact that the journey in Oshima will be ending in few hours time. Did our last shopping before heading to the Iwakuni Airport for our night flight to Tokyo Haneda

Off to last shopping
It's gonna be the same journey to reach our destination. Can't bear to leave the place hoping to stay more longer. It's gonna be a sad day for most of us. Let's push away the negative vibes and do our last shopping and creating our last memory here

Hello Huzaini

Most of us were split into smaller groups to have our lunch and last shopping. Had to gather back at the meeting point by 4.30pm to head to the airport for our flight

Visited the garden museum together

Heading to the airport
It was raining when we met back at the meeting point. Done with our last shopping and last moment together. Now it's time to go to the airport to catch up our flight. It was a sad moment for us to leave one another because throughout this 7 days together , we are like one family where we shared our happiness and sadness together. Some of us couldn't hold back our tears.

Exchanged long tight hugs and took tons of photos together before we bid goodbye to these students and their Professor Yoriko. Sad night for us and time has passed so fast that we can't believe that this trip has ended. It was eventually a good and an excellent trip. Can't wait to meet them in Singapore in March!

Day 6 in Oshima 2K16

Friday 07 October 2016

Marks the day where we sailed back to Oshima and doing our last duty on-board. Time pass fast when we were having fun and it's already Day 7 we in Oshima. The sadness in us was building up as our journey here is about to end

After reaching the Oshima port, we gathered at the meeting room to have our last briefing session and also shook hands with the Captain to receive our respective certificate of participation. It was indeed a good learning experience for each one of us. Appreciated the help from the crew too

Well done to us

Day 6 has ended so fast and tomorrow will be the last day we will be in Oshima. Too sad to leave this place with great memories. Hoping time will past slow

Thursday 06 October 2016

Finally the day has arrived ; the day that we gonna sail to Shimonoseki on Oshima Maru vessel.
The excitement is real as we can't wait to start our respective duties on-board. DNS students in their uniforms and engineering students in their boiler suits are ready to set off

Anchorage duty
DNS students were divided into two groups ; one will be at the bridge doing the watch etc while the other group will be assisting the crew doing the anchorage duty during the starting

The navigators and engineers had started their respective duties. The destination took us about 6 hours to reach

It's 12pm in the afternoon and it was our lunch time. Readily seated with our hunger and tiring expression on waiting for the food to be served. We had a few rounds as the food was delicious

After lunch
After lunch we continued our duties. The engineers went back to their engine room while one of the navigator group took over the previous one. Last duty before we reach our destination to have our offshore leave and be back by 9pm (Japan time) for our roll-call

Reached our destination at 4pm and we were ready for our offshore leave. Split into two groups to have our dinner and mini grocery shopping. After a few rounding just to find a good place to eat , we finally found one empty stall

Dinner place
Cost 950 yen
After dinner we decided to do our mini grocery shopping since most of the shops has already closed as early as 8pm (Japan time). The night was totally cold and some of us were shivering. Perfect night weather indeed
